Not that you need an excuse to eat cake… However, I don’t know about you but, I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. So, to celebrate this momentous occasion and add some romance to this event, here are 5 spots for a delicious National Cake Day date…

Butter Believe It
Just off Liverpool Street (on Brushfield Street to be exact) you’ll come across a cute, yellow haven of caked goods on your way to Spitalfields Market. The Butter Believe It exterior is usually adorned with flowers or decorations depending on the national holiday. Nevertheless, you can’t miss this little ray of sunshine in the city and you won’t want to miss their cakes. Made by a cordon bleu trained baker, nonetheless. Perfect for a cake date.

Cutter and Squidge
Need a break from the city but can’t afford the travel costs? Then this is just the place to go for a little cake oasis in the city. You’ll be greeted by their display of moreish cakes and, depending on where you go for your cake date, you may even spot some peeps in Hogwarts’ uniform casually making their way downstairs in the Soho site. So, cake and people watching? Cutter and Squidge has it all! Can we come too?

Patisserie Valerie
The great thing about Patisserie Valerie is that they’re everywhere and yet still fairly upmarket. The perfect spot for a cake date, especially if you need options of where to go and you want an interior with warm undertones. They also offer afternoon tea, so if you want to add a little English whimsy to your date, this is the place to do it!

Crumbs and Doilies
This is more of cupcake joint, but are you about to complain? Nope, didn’t think so. Crumbs and Doilies regularly tops the lists of best cake places and we know why. While they also have your full-fledged, full sized cakes, they’re offering Christmas mix cupcakes with the most endearing decorations. In fact, their food is so stunning, you’ll almost feel bad for tucking in and making a mess. That being said, the Soho based venue is perfect if your date had a penchant for photographing their food. Just saying.

Lily Vanilli
Is this the greatest name ever for a cake shop? Possibly! They also deliver the goods to support their name greatness. Off Columbia road, Lily Vanilli is all about working with the seasons and to that end, their menu changes weekly. Meaning (if things go well on your cake date) going there could become a tradition of trying their new offerings on a regular basis. Do note though that the actual café is only open on Sundays till 3.30PM, but you can collect cakes any day.
Address: 6 The Courtyard, Ezra St. London E2 7RH
So, there you have it. 5 spots for a delicious National Cake Day date. Sure, you could go for drinks and your dates, but if you’re looking for something wholesome and chill, then a cake date is where it’s at. If things go well, you can order a whole bunch of slices and just share. Who wouldn’t bond over cake?!
