Oh Boris, why you gotta do us like this?! I’m sure we’re all aware by now that London and many other places moved in Tier 4 (aka. lockdown, let’s not beat around the bush here) midnight on Sunday. It caused a ton of stress and grief to many who were making their way to seeing family for Christmas (you can see all the varied responses people had to the news all over social media, best response has to go to Munya Chawawa whose content definitely got me through 2020.) For many, they are now facing the holidays alone and, after such a difficult year, it’s an added downer. However, there are still a lot of safe ways to connect (and date) during this time. So, here are 3 ideas to date safely in Tier 4…
Same as the last lockdowns we’ve had, you can still meet one other person in an outdoor, public space. So, why not make it festive? There are Christmas lights up in a lot of places such as Oxford Street, Bond Street and Nine Elms to name a few. With less people being out and about, you’ll be able to go for more of a leisurely stroll, with plenty of time to stop and take photos of the lights that won’t be blocked by crowds. If you want to go somewhere less central, a lot of people have been going all out with their outdoor lights at home, you could pick an area convenient to you both and stroll there for your Tier 4 date.

With pubs and restaurants now closed, it may seem
like we’re also saying goodbye to some of the best
seasonal drinks like mulled wines, ciders and
Christmas themed cocktails.

Look, I think it’s fair to say that most of probably need a drink right now. With pubs and restaurants now closed, it may seem like we’re also saying goodbye to some of the best seasonal drinks like mulled wines, ciders and Christmas themed cocktails. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. Why not bring it to your homes? To date safely in Tier 4, you can both get together virtually and have a go at making drinks together. There are tons of recipes online (personally, I’m going to be trying to make mulled cider, pray for me!) Making drinks together is a great way to make the date more fun and active. Check out CLiKD to see how potential matches feel about Christmas.
There are a ton of classic movies to watch (Hello Miracle on 34thStreet and Home Alone) but they’re also some new additions to check out like Jingle Jangle, The Happiest Season and, of course, the whole Netflix Cinematic lexicon of cheesy Christmas movies (highly recommend the mess that is The Princess Switch movies.) Now, you can watch them together virtually! Whether you decide to go for a romantic vibe or a nostalgic one, quite a lot of streaming services now have the option to stream with another person, now is the perfect time to take advantage of that. Get some popcorn and get comfy.
So, there you have it! 3 ideas to date safely in Tier 4. We know this time is difficult and frustrating. Please make sure to check in with loved ones and stay safe!
