If you know us over here at CLiKD, you know we are all about celebrating creativity, I know we say it a lot but you get that it’s our thing. You also know we like to be very open with all of you, aka. Daria’s blog (shameless plug here; check it out if you haven’t already!) We feel that connections should go beyond aesthetically pleasing photographs, which is why our app aims to help you connect with people on a deeper level. So, in light of keeping that openness and creativity going, we would like to introduce you to one of our newest, and coolest, influencers; Sarah Mulindwa.
Sarah is the definition of a creative badass; she is currently starring in Channel 4’s Sex Testers (got to support anyone who is willing to promote health and safety first) and can also be found on Hoxton Radio’s airwaves as a presenter. Before that, she was an image consultant, as well as a freelance fashion and celebrity stylist whose work has been featured in some of your favourite publications. You may love her work already and not have even realised it yet! To celebrate our new fruitful union with Sarah, we had her answer a few questions, so you can all get to know her a little better.
Getting to Know Sarah:
Of course, we had to start with our mutual love; creative passion. We wanted to know all about what makes Sarah tick and what inspires her to be so brilliant. If you’ve checked out Sarah’s Instagram (@sarahmstyling) then her answer, fashion, won’t surprise you at all. When asked about why she loves fashion, Sarah said, “as a Stylist and “Influencer”, fashion is a great way of self-expression and I love changing up my look according to the vibe I’m feeling at any given time! I love the creative process of putting together different looks, exploring my personal style and also inspiring others.” Is there anything better than finding the right avenue for you to express yourself? 🙂
Self-expression is a very personal experience that we believe should be embraced and praised, so we decided to continue along that vein by getting more into how Sarah sees herself. A tough question for anyone, we asked her what one word she would use to describe herself and she told us, “if I had to choose one word to describe myself it would probably be tenacious, once I make a promise to myself or somebody, I keep my word. If I start something, whether it’s a work project or relationship and then decide it’s not for me, it’s usually for a valid reason as I don’t get involved with things or people without careful consideration.” Couldn’t agree more Sarah! Promises should not be broken, a golden rule for life.
Getting to Know Sarah Professionally:
A lot of people define themselves by what they do for a living, or their passion as we like to think of it, and we completely get that. What you do for a living is one of the first questions asked when meeting new people, so we know you’re all interested in knowing how Sarah keeps those creative juices flowing day to day. She’s doing a lot of interesting and creative things at the moment, busy busy, so we wanted to know more about how she got to where she is now. I don’t know about you but I have no idea how one would get into radio presenting, well not to worry because Sarah told us all about how she got there, “I got into Radio almost 4 years ago, when a friend of mine who worked in PR came across a tweet from Hoxton Radio advertising a position for a stylist to join a new fashion show. I skimmed over the tweet and assumed it was to style for an actual runway show, not realising it was actually a long term job as a presenter on a fashion related radio show. The director got back to me, we set up an interview, trained for a few weeks until I was ready to go live and the rest, as they say, is history!” Like any true creative, she told us that watching the show, which she has invested herself in, grow over the years has been an incredible journey.
Another equally incredible journey Sarah has been on of late? Working on Channel 4’s Sex Testers series. If there is one subject we should all have knowledge of, its sex education and Sarah completely agrees; “The Sex Testers was such good fun to film and a good opportunity to raise awareness in young people about good sexual health! Pre-fashion and Presenting, my first career was Nursing and I specialised in Sexual Health and HIV. Channel 4 approached me to audition for the show and we’ve just completed Series 1 which is available to watch on All 4.” We love that Sarah is doing her part to educate the UK, as well as share her creative endeavours with an audience. Go Sarah, woo!
Sarah and CLiKD:
Everyone and their cousin seem to be on a dating app these days. Chances are if you aren’t on a dating app, then you probably know a few people who are on one. They have either labelled it the bane of their existence, a necessary evil, or the best thing on their phone. When we approached Sarah, she had never used a dating app properly before, so she will be essentially popping her dating app cherry with CLiKD, delighted to have you join Sarah!
We couldn’t help but ask what her thoughts were of CLiKD and how it compares to other dating apps, a little feedback never hurt nobody, right? Sarah told us, “What I really like about CLiKD is that you can customise your profile and the people suggested to you based on a short questionnaire, which is a really good way of narrowing down your options without it being tedious. I think CLiKD has got the right idea as your 3 questions can save you a lot of time and effort by making suitable suggestions, so you’re not just basing your dating decisions purely on physical appearance.” We intend to check in regularly to see how Sarah’s CLiKD experience is going, because we’re nice like that 🙂 Of course, we couldn’t ask about dating apps without getting a little personal. We had to find out what it would take to impress the tenacious Sarah on a date. She had 3 deal breakers; they have to smell good, be an entertaining conversationalist and tip the waitress. Hygiene can be an undervalued quality, who doesn’t love good conversation and tipping your waitress is good manners, so we agree with all 3 Sarah.
To finish our little game of ‘getting to know Sarah’, we decided to turn the tables and ask her to come up with 3 questions for CLiKD. Sarah gave us a range that she felt would be useful to get a good idea of the type of person someone is. Here are our favourite 3;
– Fun but relaxing luxury beach holiday or cultural sightseeing in a new city?
– What do you wear more, shoes or trainers?
– You have a year to do anything; do you travel the world or start your dream business?
So there you have it. A little look into the mind and life of Sarah Mulindwa. We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Sarah as much as we have. We’re very excited about our team up and we imagine we’ll be gracing all off you with our joint creative efforts real soon, so keep an eye out!
