If you are looking for a new series, we’ve got your back. With the days getting shorter and colder, we’re all looking for something to curl up to under the duvet with a mug of hot chocolate. Well, Love Life starring Anna Kendrick is now available on BBC iPlayer and it’s the light, bingeable series you need. We’re here to tell you why, here are 4 reasons to watch Love Life right now…
Nuff said. No, but seriously. Who among us doesn’t love Anna Kendrick? We’ve seen her in everything from Pitch Perfect, A Simple Favour, Up in the Air, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and who could forget when she essentially carried a lot of the Twilight movies (I said what I said!) She’s an amazing actress and singer and, in Love Life, we get to see some of her personal charm in the role of Darby Carter. She brings to life a character who we get to see be vulnerable and helps to depict a lot of the insecurities we’ve all felt at some point in our lives. She made me laugh, she made me cry and honestly it was an honour.

We’re tired of the whole ‘girl who lives in a
massive apartment alone in the big city on
a salary that couldn’t possibly support this lifestyle,
then they meet the perfect guy and have a final act
argument for the sake of moving the plot along.’

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a soft spot for rom coms, but can often find them unrealistic and clichéd. We’re tired of the whole ‘girl who lives in a massive apartment alone in the big city on a salary that couldn’t possibly support this lifestyle, then they meet the perfect guy and have a final act argument for the sake of moving the plot along.’ Firstly, in Love Life, Darby’s living arrangements match the job and salary she has at the time. She starts the series with flatmates. The conflicts she faces are actually realistic. She doesn’t always have her life together. Her friends (the supporting characters) have their own rich storylines and aren’t just the sassy sidekicks.
Speaking of characters with rich storylines, Zoë Chao (who plays Darby’s best friend Sarah) gives a standout performance in this and her episode on the show was one of the most heart retching to watch. Love Life doesn’t just cover the light sides of romance, it goes into deeper topics like Darby’s relationship with her mother, alcoholism, what happens when long term couples aren’t on the same page, parenthood, marriage, divorce, dating with a significant age gap, debt, you name it. The show covers a whole range of real-life issues that many viewers will be able to relate to. It’s important to find out how potential partners feel about such deep topics and you can definitely do that on CLiKD, with their dealbreakers.

My biggest takeaway from watching the show
was being able to see Darby evolve over 10 episodes
and really start to understand that she’s someone
who is worthy of love.

As much as the show is called Love Life, the show focuses on all types of love. Yes, a lot of the storylines revolve around romantic relationships, but it also explores the love between Darby and her mum, Darby and her best friend, as well as Darby’s relationship with loving herself. My biggest takeaway from watching the show was being able to see Darby evolve over 10 episodes and really start to understand that she’s someone who is worthy of love. That’s definitely something we can all relate to on some level. We also get to see Darby’s career evolve and it does a great job of being honest about the highs and lows we can face, which I thought was a nice change to see on screen.
So, there you have it! 4 reasons to watch Love Life right now. Aside from these amazing reasons, the episodes are about half an hour long and there are 10. If that doesn’t sell you on it, then nothing will. Happy watching!
